“The more we get together…”

Posted By on September 5, 2018

It’s a silly little song I remember from my childhood. – The more we get together, together, together–the more we get together, the happier we’ll be. There are some important truths behind those cliched words. Connecting with other people kindles a spark that adds zest to our lives. A single human being can accomplish a lot, but a group of people working together can do phenomenal things. It’s easy to find things to disagree about with just about any person. I hope to find common ground with people that cross my life’s path, and pursue common goals when we can.

From the Maverick Roundup & Celebration

Recently, I was fortunate to be able to attend the Maverick Puppy Roundup, educational seminar, and celebration hosted by Frank and April Trevino at their home in Boerne, Texas. It was an example of diverse people from all over the USA being able to connect through our mutual love of collies. The Trevino’s beautiful collie girl, Ch Maverick’s Painted Lady, (aka Violette), was selected Best of Breed at the March 2018 Collie Club of America national show. To win such an honor is the dream of every serious collie show breeder in North America. Violette’s huge win was celebrated by about a hundred people with BBQ, champagne, a lovely cake, and gorgeous arrangements of white and violet roses and other flowers everywhere. The whole event was beautiful and well organized.

The event at the Trevino’s home began with their presentation of Violette’s puppies sired by Ch Maverick Marauder (Silas). Good breeding shows, and these were four very nice puppies!

The biggest treat of the whole celebration was listening to esteemed collie breeders, handlers, and judges answer a host of thought provoking questions about collies. A lot of information was discussed without me hearing one single rude word. We were there to celebrate, share, and learn. It was a great time. I would love to see more events like this, and not just for collie people.

Back at TAIRIS COLLIES, we are watching the puppies born here earlier this year as they go into the leggy, gawky, unbalanced stages often seen as they reach the age of 4 months. We hope the little darlings will circle around to eventually become the beauties we envisioned at 9-10 weeks as they grow into adulthood.

Here are a few pix of some of the Poppy/Samson puppies in their new homes.

More family news:

The breeding I got to do with Bridgit, (Ch Milas Madam Butterfly), to Ch Aurealis Endeavor, has had some nice ripple effects. We kept Poppy from that litter, and her first generation of puppies have done very well. We kept Patton, Willa and Maxi from Poppy’s first litter sired by Samson. Between them they have won two best in specialty show awards, a grand championship, a championship, and one near championship. Poppy’s sister, Reven, (Milas Magic Flute of Tairis, owned by Lynn Butler and Diane Vinci, was bred to Ch Milas Walk This Way, and produced this year’s CCA winner’s dog- Ch Milas Walk The Line, and his sister Ch Milas Play My Way.

Poppy’s brother, Jax, ( Milas Rigoletto of Tairis), now has 13 points, and just needs a major to finish. Jax is owned by Alma Metz of Scarborough Collies, and Lynn Butler (Milas Collies.) Jax produced two handsome sable merle puppy boys from Alma’s beautiful white girl, Scarborough Winter Dreams. One of the Jax son’s went to Jean Moisman in Argentina where he has done fantastic at the shows! He is called Arg. Ch Milas Scarborough Mighty Skywalker. He is #1 Jr Collie there and has multiple best in shows!   We are hearing wonderful things about the brother Alma kept also , and look forward to hearing of his exploits in the show rings soon.

I think Skywalker resembles his Aunt Poppy a little bit.

Summer is hanging on, but soon it will be fall, and fall is the BEST! How could you not love cool weather, family holidays, and the start of dog show season! Yay!
