We recently attended the Fort Worth Kennel Club show with some of our collies. This is a large, local, all breed show I have attended as a participant or spectator for the past fifty years. It is held at the Will Rogers Complex in Fort Worth’s cultural district. I have happy memories of seeing some great dogs shown here. Some of my dogs have done well at this show through the years, and sometimes I left without any blue ribbons.
On March 26-27, 2022 we had a great weekend! Several of my collie friends came to the show and everyone was friendly and helpful. My daughter Caitlin White was a tremendous help grooming and showing our dogs. My brother, Robert Mason, was also a huge help with a hundred things- especially the heavy lifting.
Our girl Grace ( Tairis Love Walked In), was winner’s bitch Saturday shown by Colette Livingston-Keith for a four point major. That brings Grace up to 10 points now with two majors. Poor Grace missed some prime time in her puppy bloom when COVID put a damper on dog shows for awhile. Now Grace is back at it, and we hope to finish her championship before the warm weather causes her coat to end up in birds’ nests.
Grace is a daughter of our girl Poppy ( Ch Tairis A League Of Her Own) Grace is sired by the handsome Ch Milas Walk This Way, a CCA reserve winner’s dog.
Grace needs to hurry and finish because her daughter Annie ( Tairis Annie Oakley) is ready to go to some shows too.
Annie is out of Grace sired by Am Can Ch VanIsle PrairiePine Afirmation. Annie made her debut at the recent Fort Worth show and won her class both days.
At the Sunday show in Fort Worth, we switched our handler to show Arrow since Grace now had her two majors. Miss Arrow won the the four point major giving her 11 points and now two major wins. Arrow is owned by Lea Bertsch and me. Lea did a great job training her. Arrow is out of Ch Tairis Perchance To Dream @ Scalloway, sired by Ch Milas Tairis Commander’s Stardancer.
Our boy Raiden, from Aurealis Collies, was a big winner in Fort Worth, going best of winner’s both Saturday and Sunday for two four point majors. Raiden is not quite in full coat and has just started going to shows. He is a regal boy with great movement. He is shown by and lives with owner Margie Blount and is co-owned with me.
Raiden is sired by GCH Southland Island Nights, out of Ch Aurealis Incandescence
Joni’s son sired by Am/Can Ch VanIsle PrairiePine Afirmation enjoyed himself for owners Tammie and Calvin Crole and went reserve winner’s dog on Sunday.
Last but not least, Bee, our barely six month old daughter of Willa, (GCH Tairis Sweet Things Are Made Of This), sired by GCH Cherann’s Cherokee On Sacred Ground went to her first show. Bee is a live wire. We thought she might have ADD. Much to our surprise, Miss Bee decided to show like a champ at her first show. She did very well, winning her puppy class both days. She was selected reserve winner’s bitch on Sunday.
Bee’s AKC name is Tairis & Cherann’s Prairie Song. She is co-owned with Cheryl Kobularcik- owner of her beautiful sire.
It was so busy at the show I never had a free hand to get any ringside photos. Maybe I will have some official show photos to share later. After hours of bathing and brushing, it was a very rewarding weekend at the Fort Worth shows. If the Will Rogers Center would stop charging $10 for parking, I’d have nothing to complain about!
Spring is here and we are waiting to hear if we will be having some puppies around Mother’s Day. We have ultrasounds scheduled, and we will have answers pretty soon.
